Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about Automower®

How it works

A boundary wire is placed or buried around the edge of your lawn and any obstacles Automower® should avoid. This wire is fully customizable so the mower reaches only what it’s supposed to and leaves the rest.

Small, razor-sharp blades cut grass a little at a time.

Tiny clippings break down and are automatically recycled into grass as a natural fertilizer. And the consistent mowing gives you a freshly-cut lawn 24/7.

If Automower® encounters an object, it will stop, reverse and go in another direction. When lifted, the blades automatically and immediately shut off.

When it’s time to recharge, Automower® will navigate to the charging station automatically, either via signal or by following the wires.

A guide wire helps Automower® navigate back to the charging station when the mower is in a remote corner of the lawn.

Select Automower® models use GPS to help navigate your lawn, increasing efficiency and accuracy.

Automower® mowers come with an anti-theft alarm and can be instantly located with GPS using the Automower® Connect app.

General troubleshooting

It is important to keep your Automower® clean. A mower with large amounts of grass buildup will not perform as effectively on slopes. We recommend cleaning the mower using a brush.

Inspect the blade disc and blades once a week.

Please be sure to wear protective gloves.

1. Press STOP button.

2. Press ON/OFF button for 3 seconds to turn off the mower.

3. Check that the indicator lamp on ON/OFF button is not illuminated.

4. If the mower is very dirty, clean it by using a dish brush or garden hose.

Do not use a high-pressure washer.

5. Lift the mower onto its side.

6. Clean the blade disc and chassis, for example using a dish brush.

At the same time, check that the blade disc rotates freely in relation to the foot guard.

Also, check that the blades are intact and can pivot freely.

Yes,  you can use the keypad and the display on the mower or the Automower® Connect app to change the settings for the functions of the mower. The functions of the mower have factory settings that are applicable for almost all work areas, but the settings can be modified to the conditions for each work area.

 Yes.

1. Disconnect the charging station from the power outlet.

2. Cut the boundary wire or the guide wire with a pair of wire cutters where it is necessary to install the extension.

3. Add wire where it is necessary to install the extension.

4. Put the boundary wire or the guide wire into position.

5. Put the wire ends into a coupler.

Grass or other objects are twisted around the drive wheel.  Examine the drive wheel and remove the grass or object.

Grass or other objects are twisted around the blade disc.  Examine the blade disc and safely remove the grass or object.

Grass or other objects are twisted around the cutting height adjustment, or between the blade disc and chassis. Examine the blade disc and the bellows around the cutting height adjustment, and remove any grass or objects.

The mower is blocked in a small area behind obstacles.  Examine if there are obstacles which make it hard for the mower to move away from the location.

The rest period is in progress.  The mower has a built-in standby period according to the Standby time table.  This behavior is normal and no action is required.

We recommend disconnecting all connections to the charging station (power supply, boundary wire and guide wire) if there is a chance of a thunderstorm to lessen the risk of damage to electrical components in the mower and charging station.

Weather timer is a feature on select Automower® models* that will automatically adjust the mowing schedule to the growth rate of the grass. If you want to use the Weather Timer feature, we recommend setting the schedule as long as possible and not restricting it more than absolutely necessary. The mower will not operate outside of the scheduled hours. Automower® will always complete 1 mowing cycle when the schedule starts, and then Weather Timer determines if it will continue to mow. *Not available on Automower® 115H

There are 3 frequency settings inside Weather Timer: Low, Mid and High. This controls how frequently the mower cuts the grass when Weather Timer is being used. Automower® fence door FAQs

First, check the fence door is free of obstructions. If there is nothing blocking the door, check the door batteries to see if they need to be replaced (note: extreme temperatures can impact the charge of batteries). If the fence door still does not open, check the guide wire to confirm it’s not broken. Then power cycle your Automower® by following the instructions in your user manual. If these suggestions still do not solve your issue, please contact your local dealer directly for additional support.

In normal operation, the mower may occasionally collide with the fence door without passing through; the fence has been designed to withstand this without damaging the mower.

When passing through the fence door, the mower is following a guide wire. As Automower® has been programmed to avoid damaging your grass, the mower doesn’t follow the guide wire in the exact same way every time, which may lead to a collision with the fence door. However, if the guide wires are properly installed, the mower will self-correct and pass through the door unharmed.

If you notice the mower is not reaching the side of the fence opposite the charging station, you may need to replace the batteries.  The batteries should last the extent of a single mowing season under normal operation. However, this lifetime could be reduced depending on mowing frequency, mower model, local temperatures, and other factors.

No, the fence door requires professional installation to ensure correct operation.

The fence door works with most fence types, except for chain link-style fences.

The fence door is designed to only open when it senses Automower® approaching and close immediately after. However, we cannot guarantee your pets won’t try to get through.

Simply push down one of the teeth on the latch and gently prop open.

No, as the mower is following the guide wire, it does not cut. You’ll need to maintain the small area around your fence door with a string trimmer or edger.

No, the fence door is designed with a thick, powder-coated steel frame to withstand the elements. If you’re concerned about extremely cold temperatures, we recommend removing the batteries until the spring.

First, check the guide wire to confirm it’s not broken. If that doesn’t solve the issue, you may need to adjust the “distance from charging station” setting.

To adjust the setting, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Automower® Connect app and go to Settings.
  2. Select Installation.
  3. Select Lawn Coverage.
  4. Make sure ‘GPS Assisted Navigation’ is turned OFF.
  5. Under Area 1, increase the slider bar (for distance from charging station) to the desired distance.
  6. Save your changes.

If these suggestions still do not solve your issue, please contact your local dealer directly for additional support.

Automower® winter maintenance

If you want to take care of the preparations and winter storage yourself, here is a list of things to consider:

• Don’t mow the grass too short before winter. Longer grass will be better protected during the cold weather.

• Ensure the robotic lawn mower is fully charged and turned off before storing it for winter.

• Keep GeoFence* active if you store the robotic lawn mower within the set GeoFence area. If you move it outside of the area, disable GeoFence before turning the product off.

• Clean the robotic lawn mower and the charging station; perform thorough cleaning of the body, chassis, blade disc and all other moving parts.

• Change blades and screws.

• Carry out a general inspection; for example, check the condition of wear parts, such as lower front wheel bearings. Rotate the wheels and listen for any squeaking. Contact your dealer for spare parts and assistance.

• Unplug the power supply and store it in a dry and frost-free place.

• Safely store and organize the wire connectors using Automower® Connector box. It is a good idea to tag the wires with wire labels. This makes it easier to reconnect the wires correctly in the spring.

• Store the robotic lawn mower and the charging station indoors in a dry environment above freezing point.

• Keep the product on all of its wheels and on level ground during storage, or use an Automower® Wall Hanger. Automower® Wall Hanger is produced especially for storing your Automower® robotic lawn mower and the charging station. It is available as an accessory and is perfect for winter storage.

*Available on selected models.

Most Automower® models do not require charging when stored. Just make sure the mower is fully charged before you turn it off. For some older models, the battery must be charged once every three months. See your operator’s manual for what applies to your model.

We highly recommend storing the robotic lawn mower, charging station and power supply indoors in the winter. The boundary wire and guide wire can stay in the ground. If you cannot store the charging station indoors, the charging station must be connected to the mains, boundary wire and guide wires for the entire winter.

We recommend you take your Automower® robotic lawn mower for a service at your Husqvarna dealer. Regular service will keep the product in good condition and prepare it for a new season without any disruptions.

Service usually includes the following:
• General maintenance, including change of wear parts
• Firmware updates
• Electronic diagnostics
• Cleaning
• Blade replacement
• Battery test
• Charging
• Safety tests
• Functional check

Remember to disable GeoFence before taking the product to your dealer.

In the autumn, when it gets cold outside and the grass growth slows down, it is time to prepare your Automower® robotic lawn mower for winter and take it indoors for storage. The preparations include thorough cleaning and maintenance, charging the battery and ensuring the correct storage environment. Preferably, you should also book an annual service at your local dealer before spring arrives.

If you have a Husqvarna Care™ Warranty Plus, Service Plus or Lease Plus contract, contact your dealer for the planned maintenance and storage included in your contract for the winter season.
